Quotation for Today: Disabusing Americans of Another Fantastic Lie (Updated)

The quotation for today, across the jump, introduces us to an excellent follow-on article to the piece about retirement that was introduced in the previous Quotation for Today.
"Among those aged 80 or older, Social Security provides the majority of family income for almost two-thirds of beneficiaries and nearly all of the income for one-third of beneficiaries.  Without their income from Social Security, the poverty rate among elderly would be 45 percent. With those benefits, it’s 10 percent."
Jared Bernstein
Jared Bernstein is the former Chief Economist and Economic Adviser to Vice President Joe Biden, and the quoted comments are from his Rolling Stone article cited below.

Mr. Bernstein's article provides a sobering look at the need for Social Security and why we, people who care about the program (and Medicare and Medicaid), must fight back against the fantastic lies and distortions being disseminated by the extreme Republicans and their extreme presidential wannabes. To read Mr. Bernstein's article, you can click on the link included in the citation.

As I said in the introduction to this post, Jared Bernstein's article is a brilliant follow-on piece to the article on retirement that was presented in the previous Quotation for Today. You can read the previous Quotation for Today here.
