Destroying the Constitution in the Name of Religion

Religious zealots and their political kindred, in an effort to make the United States government an arm of the conservative "Christian" coalition, are attacking the Constitution of the United States.

It seems that conservative "Christians" no longer view equality as a virtue for entry into heaven. Moreover, they now wish to make the U.S. government the enforcer of conservative "Christian-values."

The Republicans' Constitutional theory of 'original intent' now appears to have been supplanted by their Constitutional theory of '"Christian-values" intent.' The Republican presidential candidates exemplify this new "Christian" attitude.

Ms. Maureen Dowd, in her column "Separation of Newt and State," provides an excellent look at one such Republican presidential candidate.
