Quotation for Today

The world's economies continue to suffer severely from the effects of the financial crisis that began in 2008, and world leaders remain anxious over the lack of international cooperation to solve these ongoing economic problems.  The quotation for today, cited on the other side of the break, elevates the leaders' concerns about the lack of cooperation.

"This [failure of nations to cooperate] is exactly the description of what happened in the 1930s, and what followed is not something we are looking forward to."
Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund.

Elliott, Larry, Heather Stewart and Nicholas Watt. "IMF warns that world risks sliding into a 1930s-style slump." The Guardian 15 December, 2011: online edition-UK.
